PANEL DISCUSSION PISA
The International Training Network HealthPros (“Healthcare Performance Intelligence Professionals”) is designed to train international analysts that will be able to systematically link health data and strategic planning decisions. The network was supposed to have the fourth bi-annual meeting with all ESRs in Pisa, Italy on March 30-31st 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to cancel the face-to-face meeting and substitute by an online-meeting instead. We decided to organize a panel discussion on the current actual coronavirus-crisis in Italy.
For this discussion “Managing existing Health Systems for resisting in a crisis situation: the Italian experience facing the Coronavirus emergency”, the following speakers were invited:
Enrico Rossi, Governator of the Tuscany Region
Walter Ricciardi, WHO Expert, Director of the Department of Public Health, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore
Pier Luigi Lopalco, Full Professor of Hygiene and Preventive Medicine at the University of Pisa
Alessandro Colombo, Director at Academy for Social and Health Training (Lombardy Region)
Andrea Belardinelli, Director of Digital Health and Innovation Unit (Tuscany Region)
Michele Emdin, Professor at Sant’Anna School, Director of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Medicine Unit, Fondazione Gabriele Monasterio Pisa, Paolo Malacarne, Director Anesthesia and resuscitation Unit, Teaching Hospital of Pisa
The session was chaired by Sabina Nuti.
The set-up was as follows; After presenting the Italian experience step by step, from the beginning of the emergency until the present date, and considering the differences among the health systems of the Italian regions, a round table will be held in order to present the perspectives of different stakeholders: experts, policy makers, managers, professionals. We asked the fellows to submit questions to the experts in the few days before the panel discussion in order to understand how data can be used to inform systems in effectively preventing and managing a crisis situation to avoid the healthcare services’ collapse. Fellows’ questions were supported by a narrative thinking that justified the request. The whole panel discussion was recorded and the online video can be accessed via this link
